1. to go too far; to go overboard (in words or actions); to cross the line

   他的话有点过火，伤了她的感情。 tā dehuà yǒudiǎn guòhuǒ shāng le tā de gǎnqíng — His words went a bit too far and hurt her feelings.

2. over the top; excessive (style, behavior, decoration)

   她的穿着太过火，看起来不太得体。 tā de chuānzhe tàiguòhuǒ kànqǐlái bù tài détǐ — Her outfit is too over the top and doesn't look appropriate.

3. burned; overcooked (lit. burned through excessive heat)

   牛排烤得过火了，外面太焦了。 niúpái kǎo dé guòhuǒ le wàimiàn tài jiāo le — The steak was cooked too long and is charred on the outside.
