过去 — guòqù

1. in the past; formerly; previously (time adverb)

   过去我不喜欢吃鱼。 guòqù wǒ bù xǐhuān chī yú — In the past, I didn't like eating fish.

2. former; previous (describing something that existed before)

   我们应该忘记过去的烦恼，向前看。 wǒmen yīnggāi wàngjì guòqù de fánnǎo xiàngqián kàn — We should forget past troubles and look ahead.

3. to go past; to pass by; to go over (physically pass)

   汽车从我家门口过去了。 qìchē cóng wǒ jiāménkǒu guòqù le — A car passed by my house.

过去 — guòqu

1. (verb suffix) indicates completion or change of state; similar to English '-ed' in some contexts

   她笑着把球扔过去给孩子。 tā xiào zhe bǎ qiú rēng guòqù gěi háizi — She laughed and threw the ball over to the child.
