辕 — yuán

1. shaft of a cart or carriage

   马车的辕断了，车停在路边。 mǎchē de yuán duàn le chē tíng zài lùbiān — The shaft of the carriage broke, and the vehicle stopped at the roadside.

2. (bound form) entrance gate of a military camp or yamen

   军营的辕口在夜间严密守卫。 jūnyíng de yuán kǒu zài yèjiān yánmì shǒuwèi — The entrance gate of the military camp was closely guarded at night.

3. (fig.) government office

   百姓到辕上申诉他们的冤屈。 bǎixìng dào yuán shàng shēnsù tāmen de yuānqū — The people went to the government office to appeal their grievances.
