1. to lose; to be beaten

   他在比赛中输了。 tā zài bǐsài zhōng shū le — He lost in the match.

2. (bound form) to transport; to convey (usually in compounds such as 输送, 输水)

   这条管道用来把水输到农田。 zhètiáo guǎndào yònglái bǎ shuǐ shūdào nóngtián — This pipeline is used to convey water to the fields.

3. (literary) to donate; to contribute

   灾年时，他慷慨地输粮赈济灾民。 zāinián shí tā kāngkǎi dì shūliáng zhènjì zāimín — During the famine year, he generously donated grain to relieve the disaster victims.

4. (colloquial) to enter (a password or data)
