轻 — qīng

1. light (not heavy)

   这个箱子很轻，可以自己提。 zhège xiāngzi hěnqīng kěyǐ zìjǐ tí — This suitcase is very light; you can carry it yourself.

2. easy, not difficult

   这件事做起来轻而易举。 zhèjiàn shì zuò qǐlái qīngéryìjǔ — This task is very easy to accomplish.

3. gentle; mild in manner or intensity

   他说话的语气很轻，不会惹人反感。 tā shuōhuà de yǔqì hěnqīng búhuì rě rén fǎngǎn — His tone is gentle and not offensive.

4. soft (texture or sound)

   她说话的声音很轻，几乎听不见。 tā shuōhuà de shēngyīn hěnqīng jīhū tīngbújiàn — Her voice was so soft it was barely audible.

5. reckless; careless

   做这种事不能太轻，要慎重考虑。 zuò zhèzhǒng shì bùnéng tàiqīng yào shènzhòngkǎolǜ — Don't be too careless about such matters; consider them carefully.

6. unimportant; trivial; frivolous

   他把责任看得很轻。 tā bǎ zérèn kàndé hěnqīng — He takes his responsibility too lightly.

7. small in number; scant

   今年的产量比去年轻了一半。 jīnnián de chǎnliàngbǐ qù niánqīng le yíbàn — This year's output is half as much as last year's.

8. unstressed; neutral (linguistics, tone)

   在这个句子里，第二个字是轻读。 zài zhège jùzi lǐ dìèrgè zì shì qīng dú — In this sentence, the second character is read lightly (unstressed).

9. to disparage; to treat lightly

   不要轻视别人的努力。 búyào qīngshì biérén de nǔlì — Don't belittle others' efforts.

10. neutral; not heavy in emotional or moral weight

    他对这件事的态度很轻，不太在意。 tā duì zhèjiàn shì de tàidù hěnqīng bù tài zàiyì — His attitude toward this matter is light; he doesn't really care.
