1. to tread; to step on

   他不小心踏到狗的尾巴了。 tā bùxiǎo xīn tàdào gǒu de wěiba le — He accidentally stepped on the dog's tail.

2. to stamp (one's foot)

   孩子生气地在地上踏了几下。 háizi shēngqì dì zài dìshàng tà le jǐxià — The child stamped his foot a few times in anger.

3. to press a pedal

   开车时要用脚踏刹车。 kāichē shí yàoyòng jiǎotà shāchē — When driving you use your foot to press the brake.

4. to investigate on the spot; to go and check (lit. to tread/step [somewhere]to see)
