跳 — tiào

1. to jump; to leap up

   小狗看到主人就高高地跳起来。 xiǎogǒu kàndào zhǔrén jiù gāogāodì tiào qǐlái — The puppy jumped up high when it saw its owner.

2. to hop or skip (on one foot or repeatedly)

   小女孩在地上单脚跳着。 xiǎonǚhái zài dìshàng dānjiǎotiào zhe — The little girl is hopping on one foot on the ground.

3. to skip over; to jump past (an item in a sequence)

   如果你不会这题，可以先跳过去做下一题。 rúguǒ nǐ búhuì zhè tí kěyǐ xiān tiàoguòqù zuò xià yītí — If you can't do this question, you can skip it and do the next one first.

4. to bounce (e.g., a ball); to rebound

   皮球落地后又跳了起来。 píqiú luòdì hòu yòu tiào le qǐlái — The ball bounced back up after hitting the ground.

5. to palpitate; to beat (of the heart); to flutter
