跑车 — pǎochē

1. racing bicycle

   他买了一辆跑车专门参加比赛。 tā mǎi le yīliàng pǎochē zhuānmén cānjiā bǐsài — He bought a racing bicycle specifically to take part in competitions.

2. racing car

   赛道上有好几辆国产跑车在试车。 sàidào shàngyǒu hǎojǐliàng guóchǎn pǎochē zài shìchē — There are several domestic racing cars on the track doing test runs.

3. sports car (lit. fast/running car)

   他开着一辆红色跑车出现在聚会门口，大家都回头看了。 tā kāi zhe yīliàng hóngsè pǎochē chūxiàn zài jùhuì ménkǒu dàjiā dōu huítóu kàn le — He drove up to the party in a red sports car; everyone turned to look.

4. to drive a vehicle (such as a truck or taxi) for a living

   他年轻时在城里跑车，后来自己买了一辆面包车。 tā niánqīng shí zài chénglǐ pǎochē hòulái zìjǐ mǎi le yīliàng miànbāochē — When he was young he used to drive vehicles for work in the city; later he bought a van.

5. to work on a train (of a conductor or attendant)

   他毕业后就在铁路局跑车，负责列车乘务工作。 tā bìyè hòu jiù zài tiělùjú pǎochē fùzé lièchē chéngwù gōngzuò — After graduating he worked on the railway, serving as train staff.

6. (mining) (of a cable-car) to slip away (in an accident)

   矿井事故中，一辆跑车在索道上跑脱，造成了严重后果。 kuàngjǐng shìgù zhōng yīliàng pǎochē zài suǒdào shàng pǎo tuō zàochéng le yánzhònghòuguǒ — In the mine accident, a cable car slipped off the cable, causing serious consequences.
