跑反 — pǎofǎn

1. to run away; to flee

   孩子一看到火就跑反了。 háizi yī kàndào huǒ jiù pǎofǎn le — The child ran away as soon as he saw the fire.

2. to defect; to turn against (one's side)

   在那次冲突中，有些士兵跑反投靠了敌方。 zài nàcì chōngtū zhōng yǒuxiē shìbīng pǎofǎn tóukào le dífāng — In that conflict, some soldiers defected and joined the enemy.
