越是 — yuèshì

1. all the more; the more (… the more …) — used to form comparative constructions (often with 越...越...)

   越是困难，我们越要坚持。 yuèshì kùnnán wǒmen yuèyào jiānchí — The more difficult it is, the more we must persevere.

2. even more; all the more (used to emphasize a resulting intensification)

   他以前没经验，现在越是小心了。 tā yǐqián méi jīngyàn xiànzài yuèshì xiǎoxīn le — He had no experience before; now he's even more careful.
