超生 — chāoshēng

1. to be reincarnated (Buddhism)

   他相信自己会超生为更好的生命。 tā xiāngxìn zìjǐ huì chāoshēng wèi gènghǎo de shēngmìng — He believes he will be reincarnated as a better life.

2. to be lenient; to show mercy (fig.)

   法官对他的行为很宽大，不再严厉处罚，算是对他超生。 fǎguān duì tā de xíngwéi hěn kuāndà bùzài yánlì chǔfá suànshì duì tā chāoshēng — The judge was lenient with him and did not punish harshly; it was a kind of mercy.

3. to spare someone; to show mercy toward someone

   请不要再责怪他了，超生他一次吧。 qǐng búyào zài zéguài tā le chāoshēng tā yīcì ba — Please don't blame him again; spare him this time.

4. to have more children than allowed under family planning policy

   那对夫妇因为超生被罚了款。 nà duì fūfù yīnwèi chāoshēng bèi fá le kuǎn — The couple were fined for having more children than allowed by the family planning policy.
