起火 — qǐhuǒ

1. to catch fire; to ignite

   厨房的油锅突然起火了，大家赶紧用湿毛巾扑灭。 chúfáng de yóuguō tūrán qǐhuǒ le dàjiā gǎnjǐn yòng shī máojīn pūmiè — The frying pan in the kitchen suddenly caught fire; everyone quickly used wet towels to put it out.

2. to start a fire for cooking; to light a stove

   外出野餐时我们先起火准备煮饭。 wàichū yěcān shí wǒmen xiān qǐhuǒ zhǔnbèi zhǔfàn — At the picnic we first started a fire to prepare cooking.

3. to get angry; to flare up (in temper)

   他一听到那件事就起火了，开始大声责备大家。 tā yī tīngdào nàjiànshì jiù qǐhuǒ le kāishǐ dàshēng zébèi dàjiā — When he heard about that matter he got angry and started scolding everyone loudly.
