起头 — qǐtóu

1. to start; to begin (an action or event)

   我们决定明天起头这个项目。 wǒmen juédìng míngtiān qǐtóu zhège xiàngmù — We decided to start this project tomorrow.

2. at first; at the beginning (temporal)

   起头我并不理解他的意思。 qǐtóu wǒ bìng bùlǐ jiě tā de yìsi — At first I didn't understand what he meant.

3. beginning; start (noun)

   这个故事的起头很有趣。 zhège gùshì de qǐtóu hěn yǒuqù — The beginning of this story is interesting.
