走 — zǒu

1. to walk; to go (on foot); to move from one place to another

   他每天早上走路上班。 tā měitiān zǎoshàng zǒulù shàngbān — He walks to work every morning.

2. to go; to depart; to leave (somewhere)

   他已经走了，不在家。 tā yǐjīng zǒu le bùzài jiā — He has already left; he's not at home.

3. to run (used of vehicles or machines); to operate/move (mechanically)

   这辆车走得很快。 zhèliàng chē zǒu dé hěnkuài — This car goes/runs very fast.

4. to visit; to call on someone

   我明天去你家走一走。 wǒ míngtiān qù nǐjiā zǒu yī zǒu — I'll drop by your place tomorrow.

5. euphemism for to die; to pass away

   他的祖父去年走了。 tā de zǔfù qùnián zǒu le — His grandfather passed away last year.

6. to go through; to pass through; prefix meaning 'from' or indicating movement away in compounds; to change (shape, form, meaning) in compounds

   时间过得太快，一年就这样走过去了。 shíjiān guò dé tài kuài yīnián jiù zhèyàng zǒu guòqù le — Time passes too quickly; a whole year has gone by just like that.
