赠 — zèng

1. to give as a present; to present (something) to someone

   他赠给我一本书。 tā zènggěi wǒ yī běnshū — He gave me a book as a present.

2. to bestow an honorary title after death (posthumous honor)

   皇帝在他死后赠给他谥号。 huángdì zài tā sǐ hòu zènggěi tā shìhào — The emperor bestowed a posthumous title on him after his death.
