豁 — huō

1. an opening; a gap; a slit

   帐篷上有一处豁口，得赶快缝补。 zhàngpéng shàngyǒu yīchù huōkǒu dé gǎnkuài féngbǔ — There's a tear in the tent; it needs to be mended quickly.

2. to stake all; to risk everything; to sacrifice (figurative)

   为了这次演出，他决定豁出去，放手一搏。 wèile zhècì yǎnchū tā juédìng huōchūqù fàngshǒuyībó — For this performance he decided to go all out and take a big risk.

3. to crack; to split; to make a slit

   被石头撞了一下，瓶子豁了一道缝。 bèi shítou zhuàng le yīxià píngzi huō le yīdào fèng — The bottle was hit by a rock and developed a crack.

豁 — huá

1. to play the Chinese finger-guessing game (to guess which finger is extended)

   我们小时候常常豁手猜谁的手指伸出来。 wǒmen xiǎoshíhòu chángcháng huō shǒu cāi shéi de shǒuzhǐ shēnchū lái — When we were children we often played the finger-guessing game to see whose finger would be extended.

豁 — huò

1. open; clear; unobstructed

   这条路今天豁了，可以通行了。 zhètiáo lù jīntiān huō le kěyǐ tōngxíng le — This road is clear today; you can pass through.

2. liberal-minded; generous; open-hearted

   他为人豁达，从不在小事上计较。 tā wéi rén huòdá cóng bùzài xiǎoshì shàng jìjiào — He is open-minded and never fusses over small matters.

3. to exempt; to remit (a debt or obligation)

   政府决定豁免部分企业的税务负担。 zhèngfǔ juédìng huòmiǎn bùfèn qǐyè de shuìwù fùdān — The government decided to exempt part of the companies' tax burdens.
