调剂 — tiáojì

1. to adjust; to regulate

   政府调剂了粮食储备以稳定市场。 zhèngfǔ tiáojì le liángshí chǔbèi yǐ wěndìng shìchǎng — The government adjusted the grain reserves to stabilize the market.

2. to redistribute (resources, personnel etc.)

   公司在各部门之间调剂人手以应对旺季。 gōngsī zài gè bùmén zhījiān tiáojì rénshǒu yǐ yìngduì wàngjì — The company redistributed staff among departments to cope with the busy season.

3. (fig.) to provide variety in one's daily life; to serve as a change of pace

   周末他打篮球来调剂紧张的工作生活。 zhōumò tā dǎlánqiú lái tiáojì jǐnzhāng de gōngzuò shēnghuó — On weekends he plays basketball to provide a change of pace from his stressful work life.

4. (of a pharmacist) to fill a prescription

   药店的药师正在为病人调剂处方药。 yàodiàn de yàoshī zhèngzài wèi bìngrén tiáojì chǔfāngyào — The pharmacist at the pharmacy is filling the patient's prescription.
