1. subject; (course of) study

   他最喜欢的课是数学。 tā zuì xǐhuān de kè shì shùxué — His favorite subject is mathematics.

2. class; lesson (a specific class meeting)

   今天第三堂课被取消了。 jīntiān dìsān táng kè bèi qǔxiāo le — Today's third class was canceled.

3. to levy; to collect (a tax, fee)

   政府决定对进口商品课税。 zhèngfǔ juédìng duì jìnkǒushāngpǐn kèshuì — The government decided to levy taxes on imported goods.

4. a form of divination (archaic/rare)

   老先生为他卜了一课，告诫他近期慎行。 lǎoxiānshēng wèi tā bo le yī kè gàojiè tā jìnqī shènxíng — The old master cast a divination for him, warning him to act cautiously soon.
