请 — qǐng

1. to ask (a question)

   我想请教您一个问题。 wǒ xiǎng qǐngjiào nín yígè wèntí — I would like to ask you a question.

2. to invite

   我请你来我家吃饭。 wǒ qǐng nǐ lái wǒjiā chīfàn — I invite you to my home for a meal.

3. please (do something); polite request marker

   请进，请坐。 qǐngjìn qǐng zuò — Please come in, please sit down.

4. to treat (someone) to a meal, to pay for someone's meal

   今天我请你，别客气。 jīntiān wǒ qǐng nǐ bié kèqì — I'll treat you today, don't be polite.

5. to request (something formally)

   请在表格上签字并提交。 qǐng zài biǎogé shàng qiānzì bìng tíjiāo — Please sign the form and submit it.
