1. to know; to recognize; to be familiar with; to get acquainted with (somebody)

   我不认识他。 wǒ bù rènshí tā — I don't know him.

2. knowledge; understanding; awareness; cognition

   对这个问题我没有什么认识。 duì zhège wèntí wǒ méiyǒu shénme rènshí — I don't have much understanding of this issue.
