解脱 — jiětuō

1. to free; to get free of; to absolve of; to be relieved from (burden, duty, suffering)

   他终于解脱了所有债务。 tā zhōngyú jiětuō le suǒyǒu zhàiwù — He finally freed himself from all debts.

2. (Buddhism) to free oneself of worldly worries; to attain liberation (moksha/nirvana)

   修行者通过禅定可以获得解脱。 xiūxíngzhě tōngguò chándìng kěyǐ huòdé jiětuō — Practitioners can attain liberation through meditation.
