觉悟 — juéwù

1. to come to understand; to realize

   他终于觉悟了，知道自己必须承担责任。 tā zhōngyú juéwù le zhīdào zìjǐ bìxū chéngdānzérèn — He finally realized that he must take responsibility.

2. consciousness; awareness (of ideas, duties, political consciousness)

   他的环保觉悟很高，经常参加志愿清洁活动。 tā de huánbǎo juéwù hěn gāo jīngcháng cānjiā zhìyuàn qīngjié huódòng — His environmental awareness is high; he often takes part in volunteer clean-ups.

3. Buddhist enlightenment (cittotpāda)

   修行的目标是达到了觉悟，摆脱轮回之苦。 xiūxíng de mùbiāo shì dádào le juéwù bǎituō lúnhuí zhī kǔ — The goal of practice is to attain enlightenment and be freed from the suffering of rebirth.
