行 — háng

1. row; line (in a table); classifier for rows/lines

   表格有三行两列，每一行代表一项记录。 biǎogé yǒu sānxíng liǎngliè měi yīxíng dàibiǎo yīxiàng jìlù — The table has three rows and two columns; each row represents a record.

2. line of business; trade; profession; commercial firm

   他在金融行业工作了二十年。 tā zài jīnróng hángyè gōngzuò le èrshínián — He has worked in the finance industry for twenty years.

3. to rank (e.g., first, second) among one's siblings (bound form)

   他在家中排行老三。 tā zài jiāzhōng páiháng lǎosān — He is the third in birth order in his family.

行 — xíng

1. to walk; to go; to travel

   他每天清晨在公园里行走。 tā měitiān qīngchén zài gōngyuán lǐ xíngzǒu — He walks in the park every morning.

2. trip; journey; visit (literary/bound form)

   使者此行将访问三个国家。 shǐzhě cǐxíng jiāng fǎngwèn sāngè guójiā — The envoy will visit three countries on this trip.

3. temporary; makeshift (bound form)

   这只是一个行宫，皇帝临时居住的地方。 zhè zhǐshì yígè xínggōng huángdì línshí jūzhù de dìfāng — This is just a temporary palace where the emperor briefly stays.

4. current; in circulation (bound form)

   这种纸币是目前行用的。 zhèzhǒng zhǐbì shì mùqián xíng yòng de — This type of banknote is currently in circulation.

5. to do; to perform; be capable; OK!; will do (colloquial)

   你这样安排行不行？ nǐ zhèyàng ānpái xíngbùxíng — Is it OK if you arrange it this way?

6. behavior; conduct

   我们要观察他平日的言行。 wǒmen yào guānchá tā píngrì de yánxíng — We should observe his daily words and conduct.

行 — héng

1. appears only in the compound 道行 (dao heng) — refers to skill, attainment or moral/technical standing

   师父的道行很高，徒弟们都很尊敬他。 shīfù de dàohéng hěn gāo túdì men dōu hěn zūnjìng tā — The master's moral/technical standing is high; his disciples respect him.
