   他虚拟了一个童话世界来安慰自己。 tā xūnǐ le yígè tónghuàshìjiè lái ānwèi zìjǐ — He imagined a fairy-tale world to comfort himself.

2. fictitious; theoretical; hypothetical

   这是一个纯粹的虚拟例子，用来说明问题。 zhè shì yígè chúncuì de xūnǐ lìzi yònglái shuōmíng wèntí — This is a purely hypothetical example used to illustrate the issue.

3. (computing) to emulate; virtual (as in virtual machine, virtual memory)

   我们在服务器上运行多个虚拟机来隔离不同的环境。 wǒmen zài fúwùqì shàng yùnxíng duōgè xūnǐjī lái gélí bùtóng de huánjìng — We run multiple virtual machines on the server to isolate different environments.
