腐败 — fǔbài

1. corruption (esp. political or institutional)

   政府的腐败引起了公众的愤怒。 zhèngfǔ de fǔbài yǐnqǐ le gōngzhòng de fènnù — Government corruption provoked public anger.

2. to corrupt; to make morally decayed or dishonest

   金钱和权力很容易腐败人心。 jīnqián hé quánlì hěn róngyì fǔbài rénxīn — Money and power easily corrupt people's hearts.

3. to rot (physically, as food or organic matter)

   这个苹果放太久了，已经腐败了。 zhège píngguǒ fàng tàijiǔ le yǐjīng fǔbài le — This apple has been left too long and has rotted.

4. rotten; decayed; morally corrupt

   那家公司的管理很腐败，大家都不信任他们。 nàjiā gōngsī de guǎnlǐ hěn fǔbài dàjiā dōu bùxìn rèn tāmen — The management of that company is very rotten/corrupt; everyone distrusts them.
