1. victory; success

   我们队赢了，这场胜来得不容易。 wǒmen duì yíng le zhèchǎng shèng láide bùróng yì — Our team won; this victory did not come easily.

2. to beat; to defeat; to get the better of

   我们终于在决赛中胜了对手。 wǒmen zhōngyú zài juésài zhōng shèng le duìshǒu — We finally beat the opponent in the final.

3. to surpass; to be superior to; better than

   他的钢琴水平胜过大多数同学。 tā de gāngqín shuǐpíng shèngguò dàduōshù tóngxué — His piano level surpasses most classmates.

4. superb; wonderful (of a vista or scenery)

   这里的湖光山色堪称一胜。 zhèlǐ de húguāngshānsè kānchēng yī shèng — The lake and mountain scenery here can be called a superb sight.

5. (Taiwan pr. sheng1) able to bear; equal to (a task)

   这份工作你胜任吗？ zhèfèn gōngzuò nǐ shèngrèn ma — Are you up to this job?
