肥 — féi

1. fat; obese

   这只猫吃得太多，长得很肥。 zhè zhǐ māo chī dé tàiduō zhǎng dé hěn féi — This cat eats too much and has grown very fat.

2. fertile (soil); rich (land)

   这里的土地很肥，适合种庄稼。 zhèlǐ de tǔdì hěn féi shìhé zhǒng zhuāngjià — The soil here is fertile, suitable for crops.

3. loose-fitting; roomy; large

   这件外套对我来说太肥了。 zhèjiàn wàitào duì wǒ láishuō tài féi le — This coat is too loose on me.

4. to fertilize (soil); to manure

   春天要给菜地施肥，土壤才会更肥沃。 chūntiān yào gěi càidì shīféi tǔrǎng cái huì gèng féiwò — You should fertilize the vegetable plot in spring so the soil becomes more fertile.

5. to become rich by illegal or unscrupulous means (colloquial)

   那人靠走后门发了财，大家都说他是靠这路子肥起来的。 nàrén kào zǒuhòumén fā le cái dàjiā dōu shuō tā shì kào zhè lùzi féi qǐlái de — That person got rich by connections; everyone says he 'grew fat' that way.

6. fertilizer; manure

   农场里有很多牛粪和肥可以当肥料用。 nóngchǎng lǐ yǒu hěnduō niúfèn hé féi kěyǐ dāng féiliào yòng — The farm has a lot of cow dung and fertilizer that can be used as manure.
