聊 — liáo

1. to chat; to shoot the breeze (colloquial)

   我们在咖啡馆聊了很久。 wǒmen zài kāfēiguǎn liáo le hěnjiǔ — We chatted for a long time at the café.

2. temporarily; for a while (literary)

   聊且先不决，缓一缓再说。 liáoqiě xiān bù jué huǎnyīhuǎn zàishuō — Temporarily don't decide; wait a bit and then talk.

3. somewhat; slightly (literary; degree adverb)

   此事聊有不便之处，须谨慎行事。 cǐshì liáo yǒu bùbiàn zhīchù xū jǐnshèn xíngshì — This matter is somewhat inconvenient; one must act cautiously.

4. to depend upon; to rely on (literary)

   计谋聊系于时机，切勿轻举妄动。 jìmóu liáo xì yú shíjī qièwù qīngjǔwàngdòng — The plan somewhat depends on timing; do not act rashly.
