1. to consume; to use up

   这台机器耗电很快。 zhè tái jīqì hàodiàn hěnkuài — This machine consumes electricity quickly.

2. to waste; to squander (resources, time, money)

   别把钱耗在没用的东西上。 bié bǎ qián hào zài méiyòng de dōngxī shàng — Don't waste money on useless things.

3. to spend (time)

   他在图书馆里耗了三个小时。 tā zài túshūguǎn lǐ hào le sāngè xiǎoshí — He spent three hours in the library.

4. news (literary/archaic usage)

   闻此耗，大家皆惊。 wén cǐ hào dàjiā jiējīng — Hearing this news, everyone was shocked.

5. (colloquial) to delay; to dilly-dally

   别在那儿耗着，快点做完吧！ bié zài nàér hàozhe kuàidiǎn zuò wán ba — Don't dawdle there, finish quickly!
