1. eldest child in a family

   他是家里的老大，负责带弟妹们。 tā shì jiālǐ de lǎodà fùzé dài dìmèimen — He is the eldest in the family and is responsible for looking after his younger siblings.

2. leader; boss (of a group, company, ship, gang)

   别惹老大，他手下很多人。 bié rě lǎodà tā shǒuxià hěnduō rén — Don't mess with the boss; he has many people under him.

3. very (colloquial intensifier)

   这件事老大重要，别马虎。 zhèjiàn shì lǎodà zhòngyào bié mǎhǔ — This matter is very important; don't be careless.

4. old age (the time of being old)

   到了老大，人们更注意健康和休息。 dào le lǎodà rénmen gèng zhùyì jiànkāng hé xiūxī — In old age people pay more attention to health and rest.
