   他在床上翻身了一下，换了个姿势。 tā zài chuángshàng fānshēn le yīxià huàn le gè zīshì — He turned over in bed and changed position.

2. (fig.) to free oneself; to emancipate oneself; to bring about a change of one's fortunes

   经过多年的努力，他终于翻身，开了自己的公司。 jīngguò duōnián de nǔlì tā zhōngyú fānshēn kāi le zìjǐ de gōngsī — After years of effort, he finally turned his situation around and started his own company.
