罩 — zhào

1. to cover; to spread over; to put a cover on

   把锅盖罩上，别让汤溢出来。 bǎ guōgài zhào shàng bié ràng tāng yìchū lái — Put the lid on the pot so the soup doesn't boil over.

2. a cover; a shade; a hood; (also specific objects called) bamboo fish trap or bamboo chicken coop

   桌上放了一个布罩，防止灰尘落在食物上。 zhuōshàng fàng le yígè bùzhào fángzhǐ huīchén luò zài shíwù shàng — There is a cloth cover on the table to keep dust off the food.

3. (Taiwan, colloquial) to protect; to have someone's back

   别担心，我罩你，出了事我帮你挡着。 bié dānxīn wǒ zhào nǐ chū liǎoshì wǒ bāng nǐ dǎng zhe — Don't worry, I've got your back; if something happens I'll cover for you.

4. (Taiwan, colloquial) awesome; incredible

   你这样做也太罩了吧！ nǐ zhèyàng zuò yě tài zhào le ba — What you did is really awesome!

5. (colloquial, often as 罩得住) to be able to handle it; to have something under control

   别担心这个工作，交给他，他罩得住。 bié dānxīn zhège gōngzuò jiāogěi tā tā zhào dézhù — Don't worry about this job; leave it to him — he can handle it.
