缺 — quē

1. a deficiency; something missing

   他这方面经验有缺，需要再学习。 tā zhèfāngmiàn jīngyàn yǒu quē xūyào zài xuéxí — He has a gap in this area of experience and needs to learn more.

2. to lack; to be short of; to run short of

   我们项目缺资金，不能继续。 wǒmen xiàngmù quē zījīn bùnéng jìxù — Our project lacks funding and cannot continue.

3. scarce; insufficient

   冬季鱼类资源很缺，捕捞受限。 dōngjì yúlèi zīyuán hěn quē bǔlāo shòuxiàn — Fish resources are scarce in winter, so fishing is limited.

4. a vacant post; an unfilled position

   公司有几个重要职位还缺人。 gōngsī yǒu jǐgè zhòngyào zhíwèi hái quērén — The company still has several important vacancies to fill.
