1. to continue; to carry on; to go on with

   请你继续说下去，别停。 qǐng nǐ jìxù shuō xiàqù bié tíng — Please continue speaking, don't stop.

2. to follow after; to succeed (in a position); to inherit (a title, office)

   他将继父位，承担家族的责任。 tā jiāng jìfù wèi chéngdān jiāzú de zérèn — He will succeed his father's position and assume the family's responsibilities.

3. then; afterwards (indicating sequence)

   先做完作业，继而去玩。 xiān zuòwánzuòyè jìér qù wán — Finish the homework first, then go play.
