绝 — jué

1. to cut short; to terminate abruptly

   通话突然中断，双方联系被迫绝断。 tōnghuà tūrán zhōngduàn shuāngfāng liánxì bèipò jué duàn — The call was suddenly cut off, severing contact between the two parties.

2. to die out; to become extinct; to disappear

   这种语言快要绝了。 zhèzhǒng yǔyán kuàiyào jué le — This language is close to disappearing.

3. absolutely; by no means (used in negation like 绝不 = absolutely not)

   我绝不会同意那件事。 wǒ juébúhuì tóngyì nàjiànshì — I absolutely will not agree to that.
