绕行 — ràoxíng

1. to take a detour; to go around (e.g., vehicles or people avoiding a blocked road)

   前面发生事故，所有车辆请绕行。 qiánmiàn fāshēng shìgù suǒyǒu chēliàng qǐng ràoxíng — There was an accident ahead; all vehicles please take a detour.

2. to move in a circular route; to orbit (used for planets, satellites)

   地球绕行太阳一周需要大约365天。 dìqiú ràoxíng tàiyáng yīzhōu xūyào dàyuē 3 6 5 tiān — The Earth takes about 365 days to orbit the Sun once.

3. to circumnavigate (e.g., a sailor circumnavigating the globe); to make a circuitous voyage

   那位航海家在16世纪成功绕行了整个地球。 nàwèi hánghǎijiā zài 1 6 shìjì chénggōng ràoxíng le zhěnggè dìqiú — That navigator successfully circumnavigated the globe in the 16th century.
