绕 — rào

1. to wind; to coil (e.g., thread, rope)

   请把绳子绕在柱子上。 qǐng bǎ shéngzi rào zài zhùzi shàng — Please wind the rope around the post.

2. to rotate around; to spiral; to move around (an object)

   风在墓地上空绕着飞。 fēng zài mùdì shàngkōng rào zhe fēi — The wind circled above the cemetery.

3. to bypass; to go round (an obstacle); to make a detour

   因为修路，我们只好绕路去学校。 yīnwèi xiūlù wǒmen zhǐhǎo ràolù qù xuéxiào — Because of roadworks, we had to take a detour to school.

4. to confuse; to perplex

   这些问题把我绕得头晕。 zhèxiē wèntí bǎ wǒ rào dé tóuyūn — These questions made my head spin.
