纵深 — zòngshēn

1. depth (from front to rear; physical depth)

   这条河的纵深达数百米。 zhètiáo hé de zòngshēn dá shùbǎimǐ — The river's depth reaches several hundred meters.

2. depth (into a territory; penetration distance)

   军队向纵深推进了数十公里。 jūnduì xiàng zòngshēn tuījìn le shùshígōnglǐ — The troops advanced dozens of kilometers into the interior.

3. span (of time); the course/phase over a period
