糟 — zāo

1. dregs; draff (solid residue left after fermentation or processing)

   做完米酒，桶里剩下了很多糟。 zuò wán mǐjiǔ tǒng lǐ shèngxià le hěnduō zāo — After making rice wine, a lot of dregs were left in the barrel.

2. pickled in wine (describes food preserved or steeped in wine/brine)

   这道菜是用糟腌制的，味道特别醇厚。 zhè dàocài shì yòng zāo yānzhì de wèidào tèbié chúnhòu — This dish is cured in wine lees; the flavor is especially rich.

3. rotten; spoiled (literal) / bad, ruined (can be used in compounds like 糟糕 'terrible')

   这水果放久了都糟了，不能吃了。 zhè shuǐguǒ fàng jiǔ le dōu zāo le bùnéng chī le — These fruits have gone rotten after being stored too long and can't be eaten.
