粉 — fěn

1. powder (finely ground solid material)

   这种药是粉，服用时要按说明量取。 zhèzhǒng yào shì fěn fúyòng shí yào àn shuōmíng liàng qǔ — This medicine is in powder form; take it according to the instructions.

2. face powder, cosmetic powder

   她包里总有小粉，出门补妆很方便。 tā bāolǐ zǒng yǒu xiǎofěn chūmén bǔ zhuāng hěn fāngbiàn — She always has compact powder in her bag; it's convenient for touch-ups.

3. starch-based food (e.g., 粉皮, 粉条) — food made from starch

   麻辣烫里有各种粉：粉丝、粉条、米粉。 málàtàng lǐ yǒu gèzhǒng fěn fěnsī fěntiáo mǐfěn — There are various starch noodles in malatang: glass noodles (fěnsī), starch strips (fěntiáo), rice noodles (mǐfěn).

4. noodles or pasta made from any kind of flour (regional usage)

   他家乡那里把手工面也叫粉。 tā jiāxiāng nàlǐ bǎ shǒugōng miàn yě jiào fěn — In his hometown they also call handmade noodles 'fěn'.

5. to grind or crush into powder; to pulverize; to turn to powder

   把药材捣成粉方便煎服。 bǎ yàocái dǎo chéng fěn fāngbiàn jiān fú — Crush the herbs into powder to make decoctions easier.

6. (dialect) to whitewash (a wall)

   老人家说以前房子常常要粉墙保护外墙。 lǎorénjiā shuō yǐqián fángzi chángcháng yào fěnqiáng bǎohù wàiqiáng — The elder said houses used to often have their walls whitewashed for protection.

7. white; pale

   窗边的墙面刚粉过，看起来很白。 chuāng biān de qiángmiàn gāng fěn guò kànqǐlái hěn bái — The wall by the window was just whitewashed and looks very white.

8. pink (colour)

   她换了一件粉色的外套，非常好看。 tā huàn le yījiàn fěnsè de wàitào fēicháng hǎokàn — She changed into a pink coat; it looks very nice.

9. suffix: fan (abbr. for 粉絲|粉丝 fen3 si1) — used to form compounds meaning a (devoted) fan of

   他是王菲粉，从小就喜欢她的歌。 tā shì wángfēi fěn cóngxiǎo jiù xǐhuān tā de gē — He is a Faye Wong fan; he has liked her songs since childhood.

10. to be a fan of (colloquial, as verb phrase '当/是 ... 粉')

    她当年很粉那个乐队，还买了很多周边。 tā dāngnián hěn fěn nàge yuèduì hái mǎi le hěnduō zhōubiān — She used to be a big fan of that band and even bought lots of merchandise.
