1. end; tip; extremity (e.g., the end of a table, the tip of an object)

   桌子的一端有些松动。 zhuōzi de yīduān yǒuxiē sōngdòng — One end of the table is a bit loose.

2. (bound form) aspect; facet; side (used in compounds to mean a particular aspect or side)

   从方法论的端来看，这个问题还有待研究。 cóng fāngfǎlùn de duān láikàn zhège wèntí háiyǒu dài yánjiū — From the methodological aspect, this problem still needs research.

3. upright; proper; decent (moral or social correctness)

   他为人正直，是个端正的人。 tā wéirénzhèngzhí shì gè duānzhèng de rén — He is upright and a proper person.

4. to hold something level with both hands (e.g., 端茶 to hold/carry a cup of tea)

   请把茶端过来。 qǐng bǎ chá duānguòlái — Please bring the tea (hold it level with both hands).
