窗口 — chuāngkǒu

1. window (in a wall or vehicle); opening

   她从窗口探出头来看风景。 tā cóng chuāngkǒu tàn chūtóu láikàn fēngjǐng — She poked her head out the window to look at the view.

2. service window; counter providing restricted access (e.g., ticket/window for customer service)

   你要在窗口排队取票，窗口十点开门。 nǐ yào zài chuāngkǒu páiduì qǔ piào chuāngkǒu shídiǎn kāimén — You need to queue at the service window to collect tickets; the window opens at ten.

3. computer (graphical) window (on a screen)

   桌面上有好几个窗口，你可以把它们并排显示。 zhuōmiànshàng yǒu hǎojǐgè chuāngkǒu nǐ kěyǐ bǎ tāmen bìngpái xiǎnshì — There are several windows on the desktop; you can display them side by side.

4. figurative: a medium, intermediary, or channel (through which something is shown or transmitted)

   这本杂志成了传播新思想的窗口。 zhèběn zázhì chéng le chuánbō xīn sīxiǎng de chuāngkǒu — This magazine has become a window for spreading new ideas.

5. showpiece; testing ground; showcase (a place or project used to display or trial something)

   这个新区被当作城市更新的窗口，吸引了很多投资。 zhège xīnqū bèi dàngzuò chéngshìgēngxīn de chuāngkǒu xīyǐn le hěnduō tóuzī — This new district is treated as a showcase for urban renewal, attracting much investment.
