空间 — kōngjiān

1. space; room (physical area)

   这个房间没有足够的空间放两张床。 zhège fángjiān méiyǒu zúgòu de kōngjiān fàng liǎngzhāngchuáng — There isn't enough space in this room for two beds.

2. outer space (astronomy)

   宇宙空间广阔无边，人类对它的探索从未停止。 yǔzhòukōngjiān guǎngkuò wúbiān rénlèi duì tā de tànsuǒ cóngwèi tíngzhǐ — Outer space is boundlessly vast, and humanity's exploration of it has never ceased.

3. scope; leeway (figurative room for action)

   在预算有限的情况下，我们没有太多的空间进行改动。 zài yùsuàn yǒuxiàn de qíngkuàng xià wǒmen méiyǒu tàiduō de kōngjiān jìnxíng gǎidòng — With a limited budget, we don't have much leeway for changes.

4. space (mathematics, physics) — a set or continuum with structure
