稀 — xī

1. sparse; scattered; rare (few and far between)

   这片森林里树很稀，走起来比较容易迷路。 zhè piàn sēnlín lǐ shù hěn xī zǒu qǐlái bǐjiào róngyì mílù — The trees in this forest are sparse, so it's easier to get lost walking through.

2. diluted; thin; watery (of a liquid or texture)

   汤太稀了，再多煮一会儿才好吃。 tāng tài xī le zàiduō zhǔ yīhuìer cái hǎochī — The soup is too watery; cook it a bit longer to taste better.

3. bound form: used in names for thin/liquid food preparations (e.g. 'sweet mung bean soup')

   广东人常喝绿豆稀，当作消暑的甜品。 guǎngdōng rén chánghē lǜdòu xī dàngzuò xiāoshǔ de tiánpǐn — People in Guangdong often drink sweet mung bean soup (lǜdòu xī) as a summer refreshment.

4. totally; utterly (often used with negative attributes to intensify)

   这次考试我考得稀烂，简直要重修了。 zhècì kǎoshì wǒ kǎo dé xīlàn jiǎnzhí yào chóngxiū le — I did terribly on this exam — utterly awful; I may have to retake the course.
