秃 — tū

1. bald; having lost hair or feathers

   他三十多岁就开始秃了。 tā sānshíduōsuì jiù kāishǐ tū le — He started going bald in his early thirties.

2. barren; bare (of land, hills, trees)

   那座山被砍伐后变得秃秃的。 nà zuò shān bèi kǎnfá hòu biàndé tūtū de — After logging, that mountain became bare.

3. denuded; stripped (lacking covering or vegetation)

   河岸因工程被挖走泥沙，变得秃然无植被。 héàn yīn gōngchéng bèi wāzǒu níshā biàndé tū rán wú zhíbèi — The riverbank was stripped of soil by construction and became bare of vegetation.

4. blunt; lacking a point (for tools or implements)

   这把剪刀久了就秃了，不好用了。 zhè bǎ jiǎndāo jiǔ le jiù tū le bùhǎo yòng le — This pair of scissors has gone blunt after long use and is hard to use.

5. (of a piece of writing) unsatisfactory; lacking substance

   这篇评论说得很秃，缺乏事实和论证。 zhè piān pínglùn shuō dé hěn tū quēfá shìshí hé lùnzhèng — This review is rather bare, lacking facts and argumentation.

6. lacking something; missing an element

   他的话听起来有点秃，缺少细节说明。 tā dehuà tīng qǐlái yǒudiǎn tū quēshǎo xìjié shuōmíng — What he said sounded a bit bare, lacking detailed explanation.
