3. learned person; scholar (literary/old-fashioned usage)

   村里人都尊称这位老先生为硕士，敬重他的学问。 cūnlǐrén dōu zūnchēng zhèwèi lǎoxiānshēng wèi shuòshì jìngzhòng tā de xuéwèn — The villagers respectfully call this old gentleman a great scholar and admire his learning.
