砍 — kǎn

1. to chop; to cut down (with an axe or similar)

   他用斧头把那棵树砍倒了。 tāyòng fǔtóu bǎ nà kē shù kǎndào le — He cut down that tree with an axe.

2. to chop (food into pieces)

   请把葱和姜砍碎。 qǐng bǎ cōng hé jiāng kǎn suì — Please chop the scallions and ginger finely.

3. to fling or throw something at someone (colloquial)

   他生气地把书砍向桌子。 tā shēngqì dì bǎ shū kǎn xiàng zhuōzi — He angrily threw the book at the table.
