短 — duǎn

1. short (in length)

   这条裤子太短了。 zhètiáo kùzi tàiduǎn le — These pants are too short.

2. brief (in time or duration)

   会议很短，只持续了半小时。 huìyì hěn duǎn zhǐ chíxù le bànxiǎoshí — The meeting was brief; it lasted only half an hour.

3. to be short of; to lack

   我今天手头有点短，能借我一百元吗？ wǒ jīntiān shǒutóu yǒudiǎn duǎn néng jiè wǒ yìbǎiyuán ma — I'm a bit short on cash today; can you lend me 100 yuan?

4. weak point; shortcoming; fault

   他的短处是缺乏耐心。 tā de duǎnchù shì quēfá nàixīn — His weak point is a lack of patience.
