知己 — zhījǐ

1. to know oneself

   只有真正了解自己的心，才能做到知己。 zhǐyǒu zhēnzhèng liǎojiě zìjǐ de xīn cáinéng zuòdào zhījǐ — Only by truly understanding your own heart can you know yourself.

2. to be intimate or close (with someone)

   他和她自小一起长大，两人十分知己。 tā hé tā zìxiǎo yìqǐ zhǎngdà liǎng rén shífēn zhījǐ — They grew up together since childhood and are very close.

3. intimate friend; bosom friend

   她把我视为知己，什么事情都会跟我说。 tā bǎ wǒ shìwéizhījǐ shénme shìqíng dū huì gēn wǒ shuō — She regards me as a close friend and tells me everything.
