看 — kān

1. to look after; to take care of; to watch; to guard

   你能帮我看一下孩子吗？ nǐ néng bāng wǒ kàn yīxià háizi ma — Can you help watch my child for a bit?

看 — kàn

1. to see; to look at; to read; to watch

   你看那边的风景，多漂亮！ nǐ kàn nàbiān de fēngjǐng duō piàoliàng — Look at the view over there — how beautiful!

2. to visit; to call on (somebody)

   下午我去看爷爷，顺便带点水果。 xiàwǔ wǒ qù kàn yéyé shùnbiàn dài diǎn shuǐguǒ — This afternoon I'm going to visit grandpa and bring some fruit.

3. to consider; to regard as; to treat (something/somebody in a certain way)

   他被同事们看成是团队的核心。 tā bèi tóngshì men kànchéng shì tuánduì de héxīn — He is regarded by his colleagues as the team's core.

4. to depend on; to rely on; (colloquial) to feel (that)

   看你明天有没有空再决定吧。 kàn nǐ míngtiān yǒuméiyǒu kòng zài juédìng ba — It depends on whether you're free tomorrow; we'll decide then.

5. (after a verb) to give it a try; to take a look (colloquial); also: watch out for

   你试试看，那道菜或许更好吃。 nǐ shìshìkàn nà dàocài huòxǔ gèng hǎochī — Give it a try — that dish might taste better.
